Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy

Lipo-reduction, also known as Mesotherapy, is a series of injections using pharmaceutical and natural medicines. These medicines are used in combination to treat several conditions of the connective tissue, fatty tissue, and skin.

Mesotherapy Lipo-reduction is used to treat the following conditions:

• Localized fat (it is not an obesity treatment)
• Face contour improvement
• Fatty bags underneath the eyes
• Post-surgical irregularities (liposuction or tummy tack)
• Irregularities post fat implants
• Treatments pre and post liposuction
• Cellulite
• Undesired fatty deposits and weight loss
• Skin laxity

Mesotherapy treatments depend on the amount of fatty tissue and on the area to be treated. Approximately 10 weeks sessions are suggested.

Developed in 1952 by a French physician, Mesotherapy has an extensive history. Currently, there are over 15,000 practitioners in Europe, South America, USA and Canada. In a French study of 2,839 Mesotherapy patients, the most frequent side effects were minor and consisted of: minimal discomfort from the actual injections, bruising, redness, itchiness, digestive upset. Uncommon side effects included: local infection at an injection site. Rare side effects included: tissue damage and loss, scarring, major bruising, and development of an allergy.

The Mesotherapy medications and natural products are approved for use in Canada, but for different primary reasons. They have not been specifically approved for Mesotherapy. It is important to note that we would not want to use these medications on you if you have any of the following health issues: pregnancy, breast feeding or undiagnosed feminine bleeding, diabetes, history of blood clots or bleeding problems, use of anticoagulant medications (blood thinners), certain types of drug allergies (especially to local anesthetics), heart disease, strokes, or cancer. Please inform the Clinic staff of all your health conditions, drug allergies and medications (herbal, prescription and non-prescription). Remember to tell us if your health conditions or medications change.

How does Mesotherapy work?

Local fatty pockets:

First, lets understand a fat cell: a fat cell is like a biologic battery – its function is to store excess energy and release it later when needed. Fat cells have two receptors, like an on and off button. The ‘alpha’ receptor responds to the body’s excess insulin and sugar to promote fat storage. The beta receptor is stimulated during times of fasting, exercise and starvation to release the fat. In lipo-reduction, we want to block the alpha (block storage) and stimulate the beta (accentuate burning). The pharmaceutical and naturopathic medications in Mesotherapy lipo-reduction are used in combination to do exactly this process.

Cellulite:

First, you need to understand that the connective tissue is being choked by tough fibrous bands of connective tissue. Pockets of fat cells fill up, straining the tight fibrotic connective bands. This straining pulls the top layer of skin down and dimples it. The tight bands constrict the delicate blood vessels, causing further blood flow reduction and reduced lymphatic drainage. The local cells are oxygen deprived and have a buildup of cellular waste products. This buildup causes further tightening and fibrosis of the connective bands – and the cycle worsens. With the Mesotherapy lipo-reduction – two protocols are used, the first promotes increased local circulation to bring oxygen, and to flush out the wastes and flush the lymphatics out. The second Mesotherapy protocol of injections promotes dissolving the fatty accumulations which releases the tension on the tight fibrotic bands. The pharmaceutical and naturopathic medications in Mesotherapy lipo-reduction are used in combination to do exactly this process.

Meso face-lifting:

We use a protocol of pharmaceutical and naturopathic medications to reduce fat, and to stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis.

During a Mesotherapy treatment, we would ask you to wear some comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows us access to the treatment area while preserving your modesty. The doctor will decide which protocol of medications would be the most effective for you. The technician will prepare the area to be injected with sterilizing solutions. After cleansing, the technician proceeds with the series of Mesotherapy injections. The doctor will review your status regularly, and make all necessary medication adjustments. If you had any difficulty with your treatments, please call the Clinic immediately so that the doctor can assist you with your difficulty. After a treatment, you may resume all regular activities immediately.

The care required after your Mesotherapy treatments is as follows: twice daily showers with soap and water to the treated area, keep an antibiotic cream on hand to apply if needed if any injection site appears infected, and to call if any concerns whatsoever.

A variable number of Mesotherapy treatments will be needed – likely four to six on the face, and eight to twelve on the body. Mesotherapy treatment numbers are simple estimations because every person is different, and Mesotherapy treatment numbers do vary by the individual. Once treated, single follow up Mesotherapy treatments may be required every six to twelve months. It is important to note that, like liposuction, if you continue with a high calorie diet and fail to exercise, your body will continue to build fat despite the treatment. Please do not try this treatment at this time if you cannot participate in your care. The benefits of this Mesotherapy treatment versus liposuction are:

• No anesthesia required and reduced risk
• No bandages or girdles after treatment
• Improved blood flow and lymphatic drainage to the treated areas
• If you put weigh on in the future, it will assume a natural body position.

It is important to reiterate at this point that every person’s body is different and that every person can maintain their diet and exercise regimens to different degrees. Thus, we can never guarantee a specific number of Mesotherapy treatments or a specific result. Please understand that our primary concerns are safety (first) and your satisfaction. If you feel that you have been less successful than predicted – please tell us. We will work with you.

If you are having any type of suspected reaction, and we are closed at the time of your call, please go to your nearest healthcare facility for immediate treatment. Please leave us a message on our voicemail, and we will call you upon our return to arrange your prompt follow–up appointment. Most importantly, we want you to be healthy, successful and fully delighted with every aspect of your treatment. We want to hear your feedback and suggestions. If you have concerns, or think you may be having side effects or are in any way dissatisfied, we especially need to hear from you. Good communication leads to good outcomes. If in doubt, please call!
