How will I be taken care of if I have problems?

If there should be problems

It is extremely important to ask us about what happens if there is a problem. What sets a facility apart is how it takes care of people when things are not optimal. First, there should be an office policy with regard to problems. It should cover same day appointments for problems, quick follow up calls, and their willingness to do a little extra work if things do not work out. Be suspicious if the response to how they handle problems is, “We never have problems.” Whenever we work on people with procedures, there are always a few people who do not respond as expected – always! Complications may be infrequent, but they do occur. If a facility or doctor tells you that they have never had a complication, there are a few possibilities such as:

• They are inexperienced and have done few treatments.
• They do not listen to their patients and have not acknowledged the concern.
• They are not being completely truthful.

Everyone has complications, whether they disclose this point or not. What is important is to know is that there is a commitment and a protocol in place for good care, and that the doctor demonstrates integrity. You are placing your trust in them – make it a point to ask.

Cosmetic Care Clinic’s View

We have our share of complications. However, our rates are much lower than reported statistical averages. It is for several reasons. First, our patients are well educated on how they can participate in their own care to help reduce the risk. The team approach of clinician and patient both working together to meet cosmetic goals makes a tremendous difference. Second, we are accessible and encourage people to call immediately if any problem develops. Quick intervention can often reduce the severity of a complication and hasten recovery. Third, we use the best equipment and keep current with the best techniques. It all adds up.

When a complication does arise

When a problem arises, we have a clear protocol, which the staff respects. This protocol is that the patient who calls with a concern becomes the most important caller of the day. We offer same day appointments; we will stay later if necessary when the day is full to care for anyone in need. If the results are less than expected, we encourage our clients to voice their concerns and expectations. If we know that there is a problem, we will do everything within reason to correct it.
